Thickened Ground Notes is written by a small editorial desk, the Thickened Ground Notes desk, a collective byline rather than an invented individual expert. The desk exists to read public documents about tailings management slowly, and to give lay readers the questions professionals would ask. No member of the desk presents himself or herself as a tailings engineer, and no page of this site should be read as the work of one.

What the desk actually does

The desk reads the two public documents named on the sources page, extracts the passages that answer a reader’s real questions, and writes short notes in plain English that point back to those passages precisely. Where the documents use a technical term, the notes keep the term and explain it once, because a reader who meets the word elsewhere should recognise it.

How a note is prepared

Each note begins with a question a reader might genuinely have, continues with what the documents actually say, quoted and numbered, and ends with the list of chapters, principles and requirements used. Claims that the documents do not support are either left out or marked explicitly as the desk’s own reading. Numbers are copied exactly, never rounded into more confidence than they carry.

What the desk is not

The desk is not an engineering firm, a consultancy, a lobby, or the continuation of any previous owner of this domain. It claims no affiliation with the Global Tailings Review, ICMM, UNEP, PRI or any mining company. It sells nothing, recommends no vendors, and takes no position on any specific mine or jurisdiction.

The name on the door

Thickened Ground Notes is an editorial name chosen for the subject: notes taken on ground that is deliberately thickened, a small joke the first note makes precise. The site’s title is that name, not the domain, and the desk answers mail at contact@thickenedtailings.com.

Corrections and contact

Errors of fact, transcription or quotation are corrected in public, on the page, with the date of the correction. Write to the desk at contact@thickenedtailings.com; the contact page says what to include so a correction can be checked quickly.
